The pioneering alternative cancer treatment and prevention work of the late Dr. John Richardson has been revived by Dr. Janet Starr Hull, she combined his case studies, discoveries and alternative approaches to cancer in the book The Richardson Cancer Prevention Diet.

I finished the book a few days ago and must say that I really enjoyed it, we have all gotten so used to enhanced and processed foods that we completely have forgotten that a good diet is the true source of our health.

The book itself includes nutritional recommendations to share with your doctor, a natural way of eating for all ages and most important information about the proper supplements that can aid in your cancer recovery and prevention. It is not a book that claims to “cure” cancer magically or a replacement for your current doctor and treatment but it is a push in the right direction to make us more aware about what actually can aid our health when it comes to fighting cancer.

Dr. Hulls anti cancer diet program made sense to me and I hope you will check it out too for your own health’s sake.

Green Tea has been long known for it’s cancer fighting and prevention abilities but the more studies are conducted the more it becomes apparent that its’ anti cancer properties are even better than assumed.

Researches believe that it is the number of antioxidate eipgallocatechine gallats, flavonoides and polyphenoles that help prevent the development of cancer cells, fight already existing cancer cells and stop them from further development.

Breast cancer: Studies on animals indicate that the polyphenoles in green tea slow down the development of cancer cells and even stop them completely. In a study with 472 women with different degrees of breast cancer it has been shown that women with the highest consumption of green tea have the slowest development rate of cancer cells.

Lung cancer:  Tests showed that polyphenoles from green tea slow down lung cancer cells but no case study with actual patients has been conducted yet.

Ovarion cancer: Studies showed that there is a clear correlation between green tea consumption and decreased cancer risk and that women with ovarion cancer who drank at least on cup a day lived longer.

Skin cancer: Researches found out that polyphenoles have infection- cancerdevelopment- preventing properties and can keep the tumors away.

Bladder cancer: A study on women showed that green tea also lowers the risk of bladder cancer. Another study on men proved that green tea leads to a higher five-year-survival rate.

Stomach cancer: Controlled tests showed that polyphenoles block the growth of stomach cancer cells.

Esophageal cancer: Tests on animals show also in this cases reduced development.

Pancreatic cancer: A direct relation to the consumption of grean tea and a reduced risk of cancer has been shown. Women having an up to 50 percent reduced risk and men up to 37 percent.

Especially if you are a smoker and just can’t quit you need to look for ways to decrease the risk of lung cancer, a variety of fruits and vegetables can help you with that as a study from europe shows.
Experts agree on a daily intake of at least five portions of fruits and vegetables as the best prevention measure.
In the case of lung cancer not only the amount but also the kind of fruits and vegetables you eat matters, a rich variety is also very important as researcher of the Imperial College of London have shown.

The case study is led by Elio Riboli and his team has shown that the  risk of lung cancer can be lowered by 23 percent by consumption of so called subgroup-vegetables, such as salads or fruitvegetables. The more kinds of subgroups you include in your diet the lower the risk of lung cancer gets and every added subgroup decreases the risk by another 4 percent.

This effect is especially important for smokers, almost as important as to try and quit smoking finally but that is another chapter of the ever ongoing fight on cancer.

The study included a total of 500 000 individuals from different european countries regarding their diet, lifestyle and other factors.

The advantages of protein regarding the development of muscle tissue and loss of bodyfat are well known in the fitness community. But proteins have a lot of other advantages too, many are being still discovered and researched at this time.

A recent study by the Medical College of Georgia has shown that various kinds of proteins can help identify cases of prostate-cancer. The study in the Eary Edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found out through the beta protein Arrestin2 if cancer cells are developing in the male prostate. Additionally the consumption of beta Arrestin2 can help affected patients fight this variation of deadly cancer.

According to researches the development of prostate cancer is a result of the increase of androgyn rezeptors in the prostate which allows the cancer to use as much as possible of the body his own testosterone to grow. Androgyn rezeptors can also mutate which makes prostate cancer one of the hardest kinds of cancer to fight.

The researches found out that the androgyn rezeptors and beta Arrestin2 have a kind of synergy which means the less beta Arrestin2 your body has the more androgyn rezeptors exist in the body and therefore the cancer risk is higher.
A higher amount of beta Arrestin2 suppresses the activity and expression of androgyn rezeptors.

This results alone are not enough to fight prostata cancer but it is a starting point for a possible treatment. The research shows that this protein is no longer only of interest to bodybuilders but could also be relevant to the advances of prostate cancer research.

Lately you can read in various media outlets how coffee is going through an image change and doesn’t seem to be as bad as health gurus would make us believe.
Researchers of the Harvard University in Boston have found out that coffee can decrease the risk of prostate cancer by 60 percent.
So strong coffee consume protects us from prostate cancer while regular fitness activity can lower the risk of death for affected patients.

Nonetheless the accurate effect has not been researched enough as of yet properly, it is just an asumption based on results that coffee has a positive effect on insulin and glucose levels.

So don’t go out raiding starbucks because you have to fight cancer, they don’t give any discounts based on that, believe me I tried.

A new study has shown that vitamin D and calcium can lower the risk of breast cancer by an average of nine to nineteen percent. Researcher tested women that had a very low vitamin D compared to women which had a high one and came to the conclusion that in extreme cases there was a reduced breast cancer risk of up to 45 percent.

So for midle aged women a high intake of vitamin D is very imporatant, unfortunately it is hard to consume a high enough amount of it naturally, researches advise to use vitamin D calcium supplements.

One thing to consider nonetheless is that the food consumption is on average only responsible for a small part of the vitamin D intake, up to 90 percent of it can be recieved through UVB from the sun or the solarium.

In winter sixty percent of adults don’t get enough of the sun-vitamin, over weight seems to be also an issue.

Everyone who loves BBQ loves red meat but the consumption of red meat unfortunately also increases the risk of bladder cancer significantly, especially if it is grilled at a high temperature. As shown in a recent study.
This is caused by so called heterocycled Aro-Amines. As soon as red meat is prepared at high temperatures it releases this substances and can cause through that an uncontrolled cell growth.

Most imporatant part here is how the meat is prepared, medium or well done is the deciding factor. In the study it has been shown that individuals that have chosen medium instead of well done had a reduced risk of 50% regarding bladder cancer. The same study also showed that individuals that consumed the least amount of red meat had the smallest risk of cancer development.

The study itself was conducted by the University of Texas with 1800 patients over a timespan of 12 years! It has very well shown how cancer prevention and a healthy diet go hand in hand. It doesn’t mean though that you shouldn’t consume any red meat at all, as long as you dont have a BBQ-Session every single week you should be fine.

A recent study has shown that belly fat does in fact increase the risk for prostate cancer. Too many soft spots around the waist showed very negative health results in this study with 153 000 male patients.
Acording to the researcher of ther German Institute for Health Research in Potsdam,Germany the belly fat is responsible for an unbalanced hormone level which is influencing the risk of prostate cancer.

Another study shows that over weight, especially around the waist, if over the age of 50 highly increases the death rate for already affected individuals by the disease.
The belly fat does not only store energy but also influences the production of substances which aid the development of chronic diseases. Also patients without over weight but a proportionally bad fat distribution (also known as “skinnyfat”) showed an increased risk.

The rate of overweight people is about 65 percent which gives reason for serious concern. More than ever people try to find a diet that works but most of the time they don’t take it serious enough and don’t go through with it.

Another european study has also shown that “fatty” eating habits increases the breast cancer risk for women.

The right diet does not only reduce the risk of developing various kinds of cancer but can also help greatly in your ongoing cancer treatment.

Cancer Researchers from all over the world present every year, at the meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research new results regarding cancer prevention and treatment. As every year one important topic is what kind of anti cancer diet can help protect against the development of tumors.

Broccoli and Soya
Various studies have shown that the consumption of broccoli and soya can help prevent chest- and ovarian cancer. Researches of the University of California have found a biomechanism that can help explain why that occurs.
The two collegues found a substance called Diindolylmethan which is released during the digestion of Soya. It reduces the production of two proteins in the body which are responsible for the development of chest- and ovarian cancer.
Through experiments in their research facility they showed that the mobility of free floating cancer cells could be reduced by as far as 80 percent.
Only problem is that the required amount is too high to be consumed naturally so food supplements are necessary.

Onion, Apples, Berries
A study with over 180 000 participants has shown that a flavonolrich diet can protect, especially smoker, from cancer. This substance is mostly found in onions, apples and berries.

“Participants that had the highest intake of flavanol have shown a cancer risk decrease of 23%.” Are the results reported by the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. For smoker it went even down by 59%.

Alot helps Alot!
The more fruits and vegetables you eat the better as another 500 000 participants study shows. The National Cancer Institute has found out that if on a daily calorie intake of 2000 you eat 12 portions of fruits and vegetables you can decrease the risk of cancer development by a third.
One portion would be a medium sized fruit or 170 ml of fruit juice for example.
